This trail takes you through the former industrial site of the Pont-Caffino quarry.
Description
The Caffino quarry was located on the site of today's Parc de Loisirs, on the right bank of the river Maine in the commune of Maisdon sur Sèvre.
It quarried granite, which was initially used for Nantes' roads and later to produce aggregates.
This heritage trail takes you through an area that has been restored to its natural state since the 1980s and is listed as a ZNIEFF2.
It is suggested by René F, whose father was a blacksmith at the quarry. He lived with his parents and other workers in the "quarry house" from 1941 to 1964, now the Pont-Caffino leisure centre.
The tour begins at the bridge that gives the site its name and the main entrance to the leisure park, and takes you to the opposite end, near the old forge. Download the acrobat PDF document of this itinerary beforehand. After the walk, you can complete it with a hike along the GR de pays, the Pont Caffino loop or the grande boucle soif de nature.
