Our must-haves Domaine la Garenne Lemot in Gétigné

The Domaine de la Garenne Lemot, a heritage site in the Loire-Atlantique region, is a must-see in the Vignoble Nantais, near Clisson in Gétigné.

Take a walk Romantic and historic in the heart of an exceptional park

From Clisson town centre, walk to the Domaine de la Garenne Lemot . Imagine yourself strolling along the paths beside the Sèvre Nantaise, like the guests of the 19th-century sculptor Lemot. You’re in a veritable landscape painting, just as the great artist liked it. A 13-hectare trail full of surprises awaits you, culminating in a spectacular antique temple reminiscent of the great Italian landscapes near Rome. An atmosphere of great calm and rejuvenation reigns in the park.

After this discovery, walk to the top of the estate, where two emblematic buildings punctuate this part of the park: the neo-classical Villa Lemot. During the summer, the Villa Lemot is transformed into a venue for temporary exhibitions featuring major international artists. Its terrace will be the highlight of your visit. Admire and enjoy the spectacular view over the town and the Château de Clisson. A little further on is the Maison du Jardinier, the first example of Italian-style architecture typical of the Nantes vineyards. The Maison du Jardinier welcomes visitors to the park, and features a permanent interactive exhibition entitled Le Rêve Italien (The Italian Dream) by François Frédéric Lemot. The exhibitions are free and open to all.

Visit to the Domaine de la Garenne Lemot Beyond the park, a dream

As at Château de Clisson, a rich annual programme of tours awaits you, linked to the current exhibition. Guides from Loire-Atlantique’s Grand Patrimoine department will share their passion for the estate and give you the keys to this original creation.

For the whole family, the department offers three self-guided Baludik digital tours: ” Sound discovery of the park “, ” Heritage, botany and creation ” and ” The disturbing mystery of Garenne Lemot“.

The site is accessible to people with disabilities.

After your visit, cross the road near the main entrance. There you’ll discover another park, the Garenne de la Moine. This is a listed sensitive natural area in the Loire-Atlantique département. A one-kilometre walk takes you along the banks of the Moine, Clisson’s other river. Here you’ll find a viewpoint over an ancient temple set in another park, the Garenne Valentin. For families, the département also offers a Baludik digital trail: ” In search of Caesar the black woodpecker “.

The Gardener's House and its interpretation trail

A replica of the farmhouses of Tuscany and Umbria, this architectural masterpiece is home to an interpretation trail entitled “François-Frédéric Lemot’s Italian Dream”.

Through a scenography and a path punctuated with manipulations, games and videos, you will discover the slightly crazy project of La Garenne Lemot. Covering almost 100m², the Maison du Jardinier is a must when visiting the Domaine de la Garenne Lemot, to help you understand how the estate was conceived and built.

Access is free of charge.
