In Barbechat, explore the remains of the 13th-century Chapelle Sainte Magdeleine and the burial mound on the Perthuis Churin site. The 1st religious building is thought to have been built around the year 777 and dedicated to Sainte Magdeleine, patron saint of Barbechat. In 1769, as the building was too dilapidated, a church was built in Bois Guillet (on the site of the present-day church). It was blessed in 1771.
The remains of the medieval church show the remains of the walls and the configuration of a modest rectangular building, typical of rural churches of the Middle Ages. The church probably had a single nave and a bell tower with two bells, as recorded in a report from 1769. Traces of ancillary buildings - sacristy, outbuildings - can also be seen near the remains, attesting to the organisation of a small medieval parish complex.
