Description

Beneath its majestic century-old beams, let yourself be carried away by the living soul of Clisson, where history, conviviality and the art of living meet. Clisson's 14th-century wooden market halls are among the oldest in France.
The beating heart of Clisson, Les Halles invites you to take a trip back in time, between medieval history and the local art of living. As early as the 14th century (1376-1377), this vast wooden building established itself as the central trading centre, a stone's throw from the castle, where merchants, locals and travellers met at the crossroads of Brittany, Anjou and Poitou. With their impressive framework of oak, chestnut and fir, the Halles de Clisson bear witness to remarkable expertise and an eventful history. Spared during the Vendée wars, they have served in turn as a trading post, a shelter for people and troops, and a meeting place. Today, this emblematic site continues to give life to the town of Clisson: stroll beneath its century-old beams during the lively Tuesday and Friday morning markets, or let yourself be carried away by the friendly atmosphere of the events that punctuate life in Clisson. It's a must to experience the authenticity and energy of the Vignoble Nantais region.
