The statue of Louis XVI (1821) was given to the town of Le Loroux Bottereau by the Prefect of Nantes as a reminder of the painful events suffered by the people of Le Loroux Bottereau during the Vendée wars in March 1794. |
There are 3 statues of Louis XVI, all by Dominique Molchnecht: one in Nantes and the other at the Château de Caradeuc in Becherel near Rennes. |
At Le Loroux Bottereau, Louis XVI is shown with a branch in his right hand and a scroll of the law in the other.
A white stone statue, a copy of which is installed in the square in front of the church.
The original statue (housed in municipal buildings) has been listed as a historic monument since 1992.
