Chapel of Notre Dame de la Fleurancellerie
Notre Dame de la Fleurancellerie chapel, dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
The chapel was erected in thanksgiving after a battle over salt smuggling, which pitted the faux sauniers (smugglers) against the gabelous (customs officers responsible for monitoring the salt tax) on the border between Brittany and Anjou.
According to local tradition, a family whose member had survived this altercation had the building erected in honour of the Virgin.
The chapel is a small, graceful, tiled building topped by a bell tower and housing a wooden statue of the Virgin and a masonry fountain behind the building.
Pilgrimage on 15 August.
In this sanctuary, there is a beautiful black wooden Madonna with an expressive physiognomy and behind the chapel, a carefully masoned fountain. A park near the chapel welcomes many pilgrims every year on 15 August, in a calm and restful setting.
