Notre Dame de l'Assomption church (1874-1892) in neo-Gothic style
A very fine, pure neo-Gothic building, built by two successive architects: Eugène Boimen, then Coquillard.
The materials used are of the highest quality: stone from Chauvigny, St Savinien and Crazanne, tuffeau from Montsoreau, granite from Nantes, slate from Angers and Renazé.
The purity of the building is striking, with white stone and granite in perfect harmony.
The façade features a monumental statue of the Virgin Mary and Child, belfries, pinnacles and gargoyles.
The building contains :
o A very beautiful Virgin of the Assumption (work of the sculptor Vallet), fine and light, carved in Carrara marble.
o Bas-relief of the Sainte Marie altar by Joseph Vallet 1894
o Illuminated by two rose windows and stained glass windows by Paris-Reby and Meuret dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
o Great organ by Debierre.
o In the bell tower: 3 bells
Initially, the church replaced another building oriented east-west across the current square. Destroyed by the Colonnes Infernales in 1794, it was rebuilt between 1874 and 1892 thanks to the generosity of parishioners.
