La Butte de la Roche

  • Remarkable viewpoint / panorama / peak
Route du Pont de l'Ouen, 44430 Le Loroux-Bottereau
An exceptional view of the Marais de Goulaine from the Butte de la Roche, 47 m above sea level.
The hillock is not a historic site, but a natural landform shaped by the geological history of the area. It sits on hard siliceous rock (birbirite) that has withstood erosion better than the surrounding terrain. This contrast explains its visible elevation in the middle of the lower marshland.
This type of relief is geologically interesting because it shows ancient strata and the way in which rocks and landscapes have evolved under the effect of climate and erosion agents, particularly water.

From the summit, the view extends over :
- The Goulaine marshland below, with its stretches of water, meadows and canals.
- The Nantes vineyards, a mosaic of colours that change with the seasons.
- Château de Goulaine and the surrounding hillsides.
- On a clear day, the city of Nantes and its main urban landmarks can be seen on the horizon.
Accessible via footpaths, you'll find an orientation table to help you better understand the Nantes vineyard landscape.
