Description

Cross the Saint-Antoine bridge and enter Clisson through one of its most beautiful gateways, between ancient stones and the reflections of the Moine. A place steeped in history that invites contemplation and sets the tone for a discovery full of charm.
As the gateway to Clisson, the Pont Saint-Antoine is a remarkable reminder of the town's history and identity. Built in the 15th century, around 1430, and listed as a Historic Monument on 18 March 1922, this granite bridge spanning the River Moine is probably the successor to an old wooden footbridge. Its name derives from the Saint-Antoine chapel and almshouse that once stood nearby, founded by a charter from Richard de Bretagne, Count of Étampes and Lord of Clisson, brother of Duke Jean V. For centuries, this structure, unique in Brittany for its design, was an essential passageway on the road linking Clisson to Poitiers. Today, its elegant arches offer a privileged view of the river and surrounding countryside. Crossing it reveals the whole history of Clisson, inviting you to continue your discovery of the region's heritage, nature and gentle way of life.
